A 10-year-old boy died in a vehicle crash on Middle Tennessee Boulevard in Murfreesboro on Friday night, the day before Halloween. The collision occurred just before 9 p.m. near the intersection with Silver Court, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Officers stated the child ran across the roadway from a nearby church to retrieve a soccer ball. As he walked back toward the church, a Jeep Gladiator struck him in the street. The boy sustained fatal injuries from the impact.

Police identified the driver of the Jeep as an employee of a rideshare service. At the time of the crash, the driver had just completed a right turn from Southeast Broad Street onto Middle Tennessee Boulevard. A passenger was present in the vehicle during the incident.

The department's Fatal Accident Crash Team is currently handling the investigation. Officers are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the strike and the vehicle's movements prior to the collision.

No charges have been filed against the driver or the passenger as of the latest police update. Investigators continue to work on the case to determine the full details of the crash.

The crash site is located near a church on the east side of Murfreesboro. The area saw increased traffic and pedestrian activity around the evening of the accident.
