A shooting at a youth football championship game in Madison, Illinois, killed one person and injured three others on Sunday night. The incident took place at Madison Senior High School around 9:50 p.m.
Authorities stated the game was not affiliated with the school. One victim died at the scene, while the three injured were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis is leading the investigation. Lieutenant Andrew Pierson, the squad’s public information officer, asked residents to share any details, including photos or videos, that they may have captured or witnessed.
“You do not have to have the whole story,” Pierson said. “A single photo, a short video, or one detail you think is insignificant may be exactly what moves this investigation forward.”
The school district canceled classes for Monday and will resume operations on Wednesday. In a statement, the district noted that although it did not organize or sponsor the game, the violence affects the entire school community. Counseling and support services are available to students and staff.
Investigators urge witnesses to contact the command post at 618-709-7750 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477.
