Five people were injured in two separate shootings near the Michigan State University campus on Halloween night, East Lansing police said.
The first incident occurred near the intersection of M.A.C. Avenue and Linden Street. Police responded to reports of multiple shots fired. Three people were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Officials listed two victims in stable condition. The condition of the third victim was not immediately known.
Later that night, officers responded to a second shooting in the area of Stoddard and Frye Avenues. Two additional people were shot. Both victims are listed in stable condition. Police recovered multiple guns from that scene. Officers have not determined whether the recovered weapons were used in the shooting.
Police Chief Jennifer Brown addressed reporters on Sunday afternoon. She stated the department responded to four separate incidents. Brown said several individuals were taken into custody in connection with the violence. Police have not stated whether the two shootings are connected. It is unclear if any victims are MSU students.
An MSU spokesperson said the university's police and public safety department assisted East Lansing police. The spokesperson noted the criminal activity did not involve a threat to campus and did not take place on MSU property. The East Lansing Fire Department responded to 91 total incidents over a 24-hour span. That total included 75 incidents into Halloween night.
