WeGo Public Transit will hold a bus operator hiring event Saturday, Nov. 7.
The session runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the MNPD Southeast Precinct, 2467 Murfreesboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37210, and covers bus operator positions only. WeGo says it needs to add operators to expand transit service across the region, work tied to Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell's Choose How You Move initiative. Starting pay is $27.03 an hour, and applicants can apply and register online to reserve an on-site interview.
The hiring push follows WeGo's existing training tracks for applicants. Those without a Commercial Driver's License enter an 11-week paid program with classroom instruction and hands-on training to prepare for the CDL test; applicants who already hold a CDL take an accelerated eight-week program. Every new operator logs at least 80 hours of driving time with an instructor, with an average of 100 hours.
Signing bonuses are set at $2,000 for CDL operators holding a P endorsement, which covers transporting more than 15 passengers, and $1,000 for those without a CDL or P endorsement. Benefits include health, dental and vision coverage, a pension plan, company-paid life insurance and access to an on-site fitness center.
Registration and applications are handled through the WeGo website under Current Openings | Recruitment. Questions can go to 615-880-3991 or the email address listed on the site. WeGo, operated by the Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority and the Regional Transportation Authority of Middle Tennessee, runs 27 local bus routes, nine regional bus routes and one train serving Davidson and Wilson Counties.
