435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are up for grabs Tuesday, Nov. 3. Voters across Davidson County and the rest of the nation will cast ballots in this midterm election cycle. The outcome will decide which party controls Congress for the final two years of President Donald Trump’s second term.
Republicans aim to keep their majority. Democrats are attempting to flip both chambers to blue. In addition to the House, 35 Senate seats are contested. Governor races appear on ballots in 36 states. Local and state officials are also facing voters.
Several states feature close races that will shape national power. Texas, Michigan, and Alaska have Senate contests that latest polls label as toss-ups. These results will help determine the balance of power in the upper chamber. The Supreme Court begins its November oral arguments session this week. The session runs from Nov. 2 to Nov. 10 and includes seven hours of arguments over five days.
The court will hear St. Mary Catholic Parish v. Roy on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The case asks if excluding a Catholic preschool from Colorado’s universal preschool program constitutes religious discrimination. This ruling could set a precedent for how public funds interact with religious institutions.
