Residents of Davidson County can see a new stage work at The Barbershop Theater starting next week. The production runs from November 6 to November 14 at 4003 Indiana Ave. It is the U.S. premiere of the play 'Wolves Are Coming for You.' The piece was originally produced in the United Kingdom.
The story takes place in a small village where a resident says they saw a wolf near the town edge. The play explores how rumors spread and how the community reacts to fear. It uses a minimal approach with no traditional set. Two actors portray a total of 15 characters. This format encourages the audience to use their imagination to follow the action.
The production is led by Baby Teeth Performance Lab. This female-led indie theater company first appeared in May with the play 'Airswimming.' Elena Ramage, a co-founder of the group, is making her directorial debut with this new piece. The cast includes Caroline Conner and Baby Teeth co-founder Kayla Enquist.
The creative team includes sound designer Jacob Allen and lighting designer Rachel Rinehart. Both artists have recently worked at Street Theatre and Nashville Rep. The company notes that storytelling has always been central to human civilization. They also emphasize the role women have played in passing these stories down through generations.
The play is a two-hander that relies on the actors' versatility. It examines themes of truth, isolation, and the unknown. The lack of physical scenery shifts the focus entirely to the performance. Audience members will experience the narrative through the actors' interpretations of the various village residents.
Tickets are available for the November run. The production marks a return for Baby Teeth after their debut earlier this year. The venue remains the same as their previous engagement. The show runs for nine days in total.
