Democrats are set to control the House of Representatives following Tuesday's midterm elections. New data reveals a sharp change in voting behavior among young men, a demographic that heavily supported the Republican party in 2024.

According to data from Tufts University, 56% of men aged 18 to 29 voted for President Donald Trump two years ago. In this cycle, 58% of that same group favored a Democratic candidate for the House.

The Associated Press Voter Poll identified inflation, tariffs, and the war in Iran as primary drivers for voters. Many respondents cited unfulfilled campaign promises as a reason for crossing party lines to influence the new congressional makeup.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Republicans must decide their next steps. “Americans hate the direction our country is going in right now,” he said. “So now, Republicans are going to have to choose whether to keep listening to the nonsense that’s coming out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue or start acting in the interests of the American people.”

President Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he remains confident in his support base. He pointed to the speeches delivered at 30 rallies during the campaign. “It was pretty amazing,” Trump said of the response from supporters.

The data also indicates that education levels continue to serve as a strong predictor of voting preferences. The shift among young men represents a notable departure from the patterns seen in the previous election cycle.
