The Montgomery County Food Policy Council introduced a bingo-style challenge designed to increase resident interaction with local agriculture. The initiative, called Montco Agventure, requires participants to check off specific farm-related tasks to qualify for rewards.
The game board includes 24 distinct activities and one free space. These tasks range from visiting farms and farmers markets to picking produce and eating at farm-to-table restaurants. The county limits eligible activities to locations within Montgomery County boundaries. Visits to farms in other counties do not count toward completion of the board.
Prizes are structured around standard bingo patterns. Participants who complete a single row, column, or diagonal of five items receive a hat or a water bottle. Those who finish two or more such lines enter a raffle for a grand prize package consisting of local farm goods. Winners will have their prizes mailed after the challenge period concludes in November.
The Food Policy Council launched the program to raise awareness of the county’s farming community. Council members stated that the goal is to promote engagement with a diverse agricultural sector. They aim to make participation accessible through a simple download-and-play format.
Participants may share photos of their completed activities on social media. The county encourages users to tag the Department of Health and Human Services account, @HHSMontcoPA, or use the hashtag #montcoagventure. The department monitors these posts and may share them in its social media stories.
The initiative is managed by members of the Food Policy Council. They handle all inquiries through a dedicated email address, oph.agventure@montgomerycountypa.gov. The council also directs participants to a Field to Family Map. This digital tool displays the variety of products and activities available at local farms, helping residents plan their visits.
The county promoted the challenge through Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn. Sample posts highlighted seasonal opportunities, such as strawberry picking in early summer. The agency emphasized that local farms contribute to the regional economy, preserve natural resources, and support environmental health. The program remains active with prizes distributed after the November deadline.
