Lipscomb University will hold its 22nd annual Lighting of the Green on Tuesday, Dec. 1, inviting the Davidson County community to a free holiday celebration.
Nashville singer-songwriter Ellie Holcomb will host the event. She will be joined by special musical guests, as well as performances by Lipscomb Academy and Lipscomb University ensembles, the Sanctuary choir, and the Lipscomb Gospel Choir.
The university has moved this year's festivities inside Allen Arena to keep the event under one roof. General festivities begin at 4 p.m., with the concert scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Holcomb is a Nashville-based artist who won the GMA Dove Award for New Artist of the Year after launching a solo career following eight years of touring with Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors. She has since earned multiple Dove Awards. Her 2023 Christmas album, Sounding Joy, earned a Dove Award for Children’s Recorded Song of the Year.
The Merry Marketplace, a collection of holiday vendors, will occupy the North Lobby of Allen Arena on the Gold Level Concourse starting at 4 p.m. Vendors donate a portion of their proceeds to Lipscomb scholarships. Free photographs with Santa will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Food will be available for purchase at the Allen Arena concession stands. Options also include Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, Creek Stone Grill, and Wild Blue Asian Fusion at the Bennett Campus Center, plus Freshens in the Student Activities Center.
The event has featured a range of entertainers over the past decade, including Michael W. Smith, Brenda Lee, Vince Gill, CeCe Winans, and the Fisk Jubilee Singers.
