Davidson County officials report steady voter turnout across 178 sites

Davidson County election officials report a strong flow of voters at polling places across the county on election day.

John Richardson, the administrator of elections for Davidson County, told WPLN News that turnout has been steady at all 178 polling locations. He noted that voters appear motivated to cast their ballots despite earlier concerns about technical issues or intimidation.

Volunteers from the Guardians of Democracy, a group of lawyers and citizen monitors, are stationed at sites to watch for disruptions. Margaret Akers, a volunteer in Davidson County, explained that her team looks for lines that are excessively long or instances where voters feel intimidated. She stated that such conditions would signal a worst-case scenario requiring attention.

Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett addressed reports of challenges with touchscreen voting machines. He advised voters to check their ballots carefully before the final printout. Hargett explained that the screen lights up selections so voters can see if a choice was unintended. He added that voters have multiple opportunities to review their ballot, including a final check after the ballot prints but before it goes through the scanner.

Hargett noted that individual counties select their own voting equipment. Davidson, Williamson, and Wilson counties are currently using the same type of machines, according to the Secretary of State.

The polling locations remain open for the duration of the voting period.
