A popular brand of ground cinnamon is being pulled from stores across the country because of a possible lead issue.
SLR Food Distribution Inc. announced the voluntary recall on October 30, 2026. The company said the Wise Wife Brand product may contain elevated levels of lead. The recall covers 14 states. These include Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The affected cinnamon was sold in grocery and retail stores from September 8, 2025, to June 28, 2026. The product comes in an 110 gram clear plastic container with a black screw-top cap. The best-before date on the label is April 25, 2027. The UPC number 0688474302754 is printed on the back label.
The recall notice states that lead exposure can affect many bodily systems. The specific effects depend on the dose, how long the exposure lasts, and the age and weight of the person. Short-term exposure to low levels of lead often does not cause immediate symptoms. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this specific product so far.
Consumers should stop using the recalled cinnamon. The company advises buyers to throw the product away or return it to the store where it was purchased. Stores are to provide a full refund for the item. This action takes place just before the holiday baking season.
