Porsche reported a sharp increase in operating profit for the first nine months of 2026, even as its revenue and vehicle sales continued to decline.

The German automaker, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, disclosed that its operating profit reached 1.74 billion euros, or 1.94 billion dollars, for the period. This figure stands in contrast to the 40 million euros reported in the same period last year. The prior year's low profit was largely due to approximately 2.7 billion euros in strategic restructuring costs.

Despite the profit recovery, the company's financial results showed a contraction in activity. Sales revenue fell by 5.9% to 25.28 billion euros. Total vehicle deliveries decreased by 16% to 178,532 units. North America remained the largest market for the company by volume during this time.

Porsche management attributed the improved financial position to a more balanced global sales footprint. Chief Financial Officer Jochen Breckner stated that the company has reduced its reliance on China, a market where foreign luxury brands face stiff competition. He noted that this shift makes the business less vulnerable to the difficult conditions in that region.

The reduction in Chinese exposure comes as local competitors such as BYD, Geely, and Xiaomi gain market share, particularly in electric vehicles. Porsche's sales in China have fallen sharply in recent years. Breckner said the company's geographic diversification provides resilience across different markets.

Investors responded positively to the earnings release on Tuesday. Porsche shares closed trading 2.3% higher. The company is also proceeding with a restructuring plan that includes cutting thousands of jobs to lower costs and address softer demand.

Citi analysts observed that the nine-month results aligned with market expectations despite lower deliveries and higher costs. They noted that Porsche's underlying earnings before interest and taxes remain stronger than those of its German peers. The analysts expect the company to return to double-digit operating profit margins beginning in 2028, with net cash flow recovering to levels seen at its initial public offering by 2031.
