Dairy Coalition Asks Farmers to Report Fuel Costs
Surveys target milk hauling and manure handling expenses as USDA prepares $8 billion relief program.
By Fernando Rojas ·

The American Dairy Coalition wants producers to document how rising fuel prices are affecting their operations before the USDA finalizes its new agricultural relief package.
The group launched two anonymous surveys to measure the financial strain on dairy farms. One survey focuses specifically on fuel costs for milk hauling, manure handling, and daily farm tasks.
Coalition leaders worry that these specific expenses could be missed in the USDA’s $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief Program. The second survey examines overall farm finances as producers prepare for the 2027 season.
The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service recently acknowledged a processing error that affected corn data for Kansas and Nebraska in its September report.
Meanwhile, the USDA announced that the FIELDS program will fund 22 projects across 16 states to boost fertilizer supply. A new memorandum of understanding between the USDA and NASA aims to strengthen data quality and help farmers access new technologies.
Industry reports indicate that sharply lower cattle placements are tightening future supplies, while heifer numbers show only limited evidence of herd rebuilding.
