Irene Miller, 50, was booked into the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm on Friday.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office issued the warrant after deputies found Miller's four children alone in their Kissimmee home on Oct. 21. The children, ages 9, 11, 12, and 14, had no adults present when officers arrived shortly after 8:30 p.m. A 911 call reported a dumbbell had fallen on the 9-year-old's head. Fire rescue crews transported the boy to Celebration Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.
Miller had left Florida for Las Vegas on Oct. 18 for work. She told deputies she expected to return on Oct. 23. She stated she arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to assist the children with morning school routines and check on them during the day. The sitter was not required to remain overnight, according to the sheriff's office.
Body camera video captured deputies approaching Miller as she exited her plane Friday morning. They escorted her through the terminal and placed her in handcuffs. The children's father agreed to take the four kids to his home while detectives coordinated the airport pickup.
Sheriff Chris Blackmon said the department will not tolerate child neglect. He added that cases will be investigated and charges brought against parents who fail to properly supervise or care for their children.
