Firefighters extinguished a structure fire on the 2500 block of Distillery Road in Greenbrier on Wednesday, leaving the home uninhabitable. Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the blaze.
Emergency crews received reports of the fire at 8:24 a.m. Greenbrier Fire Chief Kyle Hamill said the team immediately began an interior attack while searching for occupants. They succeeded in getting the fire under control, but the flames had already spread into the attic.
Because of the attic fire, crews conducted extensive overhaul operations. They had to locate and extinguish hidden fires within the structure. This process took time but ensured the home was safe from re-ignition.
Officials estimate that 30% of the residence suffered damage from fire, smoke, and water. The extent of the destruction means the home is currently uninhabitable. No one was injured in the incident.
The investigation into the origin of the fire is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released a final report on what sparked the blaze. The property remains in the care of local officials as they assess the scene.
