The Kansas City Current secured a spot in the National Women's Soccer League playoffs on Sunday after defeating Racing Louisville FC, 2-0. The victory guarantees the team its third straight postseason appearance. Fans gathered at Current Landing, located outside CPKC Stadium, to watch the match and celebrate the clinched berth.

Dozens of supporters attended the watch party as the game unfolded. The attendance reflected a season that many describe as turbulent. The team overcame an early slump to secure their place in the postseason. Christina, a supporter at the event, noted the effort required to reach this point. “They’ve really turned it around and made a comeback, and it’s really awesome to see all the work that’s been put in,” she said.

For season ticket holders Enrique and Lauren, supporting the Current has become a weekly routine. They moved to the Kansas City area and found a community through the club. “We’re actually transplants to Kansas City,” Enrique said. “We fell in love with this team when we moved here, and it’s been a really great way to meet other people and be out in the community.” Lauren added that attending every weekend felt like the right choice to support the players.

Other fans recalled the anxiety of the team's difficult start. Ashley described the early season as a roller coaster. The departure of player Vladko created uncertainty about the team's direction. “It was scary losing Vladko. That was a little bit of a hard situation,” Ashley said. “We weren’t sure how we were going to feel about that and the direction our team was going to take.”

The Current now prepares for the opening round of the playoffs. They will host fifth-seeded Angel City FC at CPKC Stadium on Saturday. Tickets for the matchup are currently on sale. Missy Jenkins, senior vice president of commercial operations for the Current, invited supporters to attend. “We would love to see all the fans out here next week to watch us take home the win,” she said. The winner of the Saturday match will advance in the NWSL playoff bracket.
