The 2026-27 college basketball season features its first ranked matchup on Monday, pitting the No. 1 Florida Gators against the No. 14 Miami Hurricanes. The in-state rivals will play their 71st game in this series during the 2026 Orion180 Tipoff Classic. The contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa.
Florida enters the game as a 5.5-point favorite according to current odds. The total points line is set at 160.5. The Gators finished the previous season 27-8 and captured the national title in 2025. They are competing for the second time in program history while holding the top spot in the AP Poll. The Hurricanes went 26-9 under head coach Jai Lucas during his first year in the role. Miami finished last season ranked 24th in the final AP Poll.
SportsLine’s Projection Model has simulated this specific matchup 10,000 times to generate betting predictions. The model predicts the total points will fall under the 160.5 line in 58% of those simulations. It projects the two teams will combine for 158 points. The model has been 11-1 on its top-rated over/under college basketball picks dating back to 2025. Its record on top-rated side picks is 28-22.
Historical data supports the prediction for a low-scoring game. Each of the last eight meetings between these teams failed to reach 150 combined points. In their November 2025 matchup, the teams scored a combined 150 points, which was well under the listed total of 171.5 at the time. Florida defeated Miami in that neutral site contest.
Both programs showed defensive strength in the previous regular season. The Gators posted the No. 2 scoring defense in the SEC. The Hurricanes ranked fourth in the ACC in points allowed per game. Last year, the under total hit in 67% of Miami’s games when they were underdogs, an 8-4 record. The total also failed to be reached in 60% of Florida’s regular season games, an 18-12-1 record.
The model indicates that one side of the spread hits in nearly 60% of the simulations. Florida and Miami will take the court in Tampa to begin their respective seasons against each other.
