District championships, undefeated records and top-ten rankings converge on Friday night across the Baton Rouge area.
Madison Prep travels to Plaquemine for a 7 p.m. District 6-4A contest with the league title in reach. A victory for the Chargers would position them for the crown, while a win by the Green Devils would create a three-way tie among Plaquemine, Madison Prep and St. Michael. Madison Prep (6-2) has won five straight since opening the season 1-2 and is coming off a 32-3 defeat of St. Michael. Plaquemine (5-3) has taken its last two games, scoring more than 50 points in each.
Two other district races reach their decisive moments this week. Baker (7-1) hosts Istrouma (5-3) at 7 p.m., with both teams holding unbeaten records in District 6-3A play. The Buffaloes have likely secured a playoff berth, and the Indians could clinch a spot with a victory; Istrouma sits 20th in the Division III select power ratings. Ascension Christian (8-0), which is not eligible for the postseason, hosts Fisher seeking an undefeated regular season with two games left on its schedule.
The top billing among Friday's games belongs to East Feliciana (7-1) hosting Kentwood (8-0) at 7 p.m. Kentwood is ranked No. 5 in the LSWA Class 1A poll and owns wins over ranked opponents including Jewel Sumner. East Feliciana enters as the top seed in the Division IV nonselect power ratings. Elsewhere on the schedule, Zachary (5-3) meets Destrehan (7-1) at 7 p.m. The Broncos are off a 54-0 win over Woodlawn and have taken four of their last five, while the Wildcats carry a six-game winning streak and a No. 3 ranking in Division I nonselect ratings. Lutcher also travels to St. Charles; the Bulldogs have won four straight, climbed into the LSWA Class 3A top 10 and stand third in Division II nonselect ratings.
Player production is concentrated among a handful of names. Dunham wide receiver William Dantin has eight touchdown catches and 10 total touchdowns in his senior season. Madison Prep defensive back Chris Barber has six interceptions, tied for second statewide, along with 25 tackles. East Feliciana athlete Ryan Moore has produced 514 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 25 receptions, 365 rushing yards and four rushing scores, plus three interceptions on defense.
The week's schedule begins Thursday with Brusly at Broadmoor, Southern Lab against St. John at Plaquemine High, Collegiate Baton Rouge at Parkview Baptist, Glen Oaks at Helix Mentorship Academy and Albany at Walker. Friday's card runs from Kentwood at East Feliciana to Madison Prep at Plaquemine and Lutcher at St. Charles, with White Castle awarded a forfeit win over Capitol and Acadiana Christian awarded a forfeit win over Thrive Academy.
