U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman spent the congressional break traveling to farms across Arkansas in the days before the Tuesday midterm elections. While members of Congress were away from Washington, the representative used the time to meet directly with agricultural producers in his state.
The Arkansas Farm Bureau identified the specific locations of his outreach. Westerman stopped at Paw Paw’s Pecans and the Ralston Family Farm. He also participated in a roundtable discussion held in Pope County.
These visits occurred during the period when the legislative body is typically out of session. The schedule allowed Westerman to leave Capitol Hill and focus on district engagement. He returned to the state to listen to the voices of those working the land.
Westerman stated that hearing directly from producers helps him understand their specific concerns. He said this process allows him to represent their interests more effectively when he is in Congress. The feedback gathered during these trips will inform his legislative priorities.
Members of Congress are expected to return to Capitol Hill following the election results. The upcoming session will see the house reconvene after this pre-election break. Westerman’s schedule reflects the typical pattern of representatives using recess periods for constituent meetings.
