Nothing will release its first dedicated artificial intelligence hardware in December. CEO Carl Pei made the announcement in a post on X on Tuesday, marking the end of a yearlong development cycle for the company's new product line.
The device will not feature a display. Pei described the item as a tool built with the same attention to design that defines Nothing's other products. He clarified that the concept could not have been executed as a software application on an existing phone.
Pei shared an image with the post showing the Nothing logo above a dark, rounded shape. Last month, reports suggested the company is preparing two pairs of AI smart glasses, one of which lacks cameras. Other rumors indicated a strategic shift toward becoming an AI-first company focused on accessories.
This launch places Nothing in a crowded market of screen-free gadgets. Competitors include the Humane AI pin and the Friend, while OpenAI is reportedly developing an AI smart speaker with designer Jony Ive.
Pei commented on the current industry trend of searching for a single hardware form factor that defines AI for consumers. He compared the search to the industry looking for its iPhone moment through pendants, pins, and glasses.
"Looking for the iPhone of AI today is a dead end," Pei wrote. He noted that the new product aims to integrate AI into daily life without relying on a new screen.
Nothing previously announced plans for AI-native devices and a dedicated operating system just over a year ago. The company has not provided specific technical specifications or a price point for the upcoming device.
