Nashville Soccer Club clinched the Supporters' Shield on Saturday after defeating CF Montréal 2-0, securing the best regular season record in Major League Soccer for the 2026 campaign. The victory mathematically eliminated the possibility of any other team catching the Boys in Gold before the season concludes.
This marks the first time in the club's history that it has claimed this specific trophy. The team has amassed 70 points in its first 31 matches of the season. Their record stands at 21 wins, 3 losses, and 7 draws. These statistics represent the best record at this point in the season for any team in league history.
Nashville SC is currently four points behind the all-time regular season record. Inter Miami holds that mark with 74 points. The Florida club won the Supporters' Shield in 2024 and subsequently captured the MLS Cup. Nashville now enters the postseason with a strong position to challenge that historical benchmark.
The structure of MLS competition differs from many European leagues. While European champions are determined by regular season standings, MLS teams compete in a knockout bracket to determine the final cup winner. The regular season champion receives the Supporters' Shield, but the league title goes to the playoff winner.
Star midfielder Hany Mukhtar addressed the dual nature of the achievement in a statement to MLS. “For one, two weeks we can be European, celebrate the championship,” Mukhtar said. “But then we have to get back to how the system is here, the playoffs and all that. We need to be ready. We know that it’s a new season in the playoffs, and we will make sure that we are all ready.”
The Supporters' Shield provides tangible advantages during the postseason. Nashville SC earned the No. 1 seed and home field advantage throughout the tournament. In the best-of-three opening round, the team will play only one match on its opponent's home turf. The remaining two games in that series will be hosted by Nashville SC.
The victory also secured the team a direct qualification spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup. This international competition allows the top MLS team to face opponents from other North American and Caribbean leagues.
