A new compilation album featuring thirteen original protest songs from Kentucky musicians dropped on Bandcamp on Thursday. The release, titled Take It Back!, directs all proceeds to Kentucky Refugee Ministries. The non-profit provides resettlement, legal aid, and support services to refugees and displaced individuals in the state.
Kentucky Refugee Ministries works with faith-based organizations and other partners to help newcomers integrate into local communities. The album serves as a financial tool for these ongoing efforts.
All thirteen tracks were recorded live at the La La Land recording studio in Louisville. The artists represent a wide range of genres, including folk, rock, hip-hop, punk, and bilingual Latin music. The songs address themes such as immigration raids, democracy, faith, climate change, and community bonds.
La La Land described the project as a way to amplify the voices of people fighting for their community. The studio noted that the release supports the organization while exercising the right to free speech. The team emphasized solidarity with immigrants and the defense of human dignity through music.
The compilation includes contributions from 10th Street Dre and The Ministry of Truth, Houseplant, Joe Clark, LOUIE V Edsel, Mason Colby, mothbaby, Yapa!, Glenn Davis, Nick Teale, Precious Perez, StellAura, The Histrionics, and Hex Hex Hex. Each artist contributed a unique perspective on the current moment.
The album is now available for streaming and purchase on Bandcamp. Listeners can access the tracks directly through the platform to support the cause.
