Thompson's Station plans to form its own police force
Town leaders cite a lack of data from the county sheriff's office as they prepare to hire a chief and build a station.

Thompson's Station officials are moving forward with plans to create a local police department.
During a recent meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, town leaders outlined the next steps for establishing the new agency. The proposal includes hiring a police chief and beginning construction on a police station next year.
The push for a local force stems from frustrations with the current arrangement. An alderman stated that the town has been "flying blind" in its dealings with the Williamson County Sheriffs Office. The official argued that the town sends a check to the county every year but does not receive police data in return. This lack of transparency, the alderman said, has made it difficult to assess local safety needs.
Leaders explained that having a dedicated police chief would create a mechanism for data accountability. With a local department, officials believe they can better determine specific policing needs based on actual figures rather than relying on county reports.
The board will continue discussions on the structure and funding of the future department during its meeting next month. Officials have not yet set a specific date for the hiring process or the start of construction.
