Saraland senior quarterback Jamison Roberts was named the Big Friday Kickoff Player of the Week after he led his team to a 48-34 victory over Auburn on Thursday night. The award, sponsored by Rich’s Car Wash, recognized Roberts for his dual-threat performance that generated five touchdowns in a single game.

Roberts, a committed recruit for the University of Oklahoma, finished the contest with 329 all-purpose yards. He connected on two touchdown passes and carried the ball for three additional scores. His statistical output against a physically demanding defense was the primary factor in the selection.

In a postgame interview, Roberts acknowledged that his execution was strong but admitted there were areas for improvement. He credited Auburn for fielding a physical defensive unit that tested the Spartans' offensive line and his own decision-making. Roberts expressed satisfaction with the final result despite the challenges presented by the opponent.

The quarterback attributed the recognition to the individual effort he puts in outside of practice. He stated that the award serves as proof that his private preparation is translating into visible results on Friday nights. Roberts described the continued recognition as a blessing that reinforces his work ethic.

Jeff Kelly, the head coach at Saraland, emphasized Roberts' discipline and ability to study film. Kelly noted that Roberts approaches every game with a thorough understanding of the offensive scheme. The coach also pointed to Roberts' capacity to make real-time adjustments during the contest against Auburn, describing the quarterback's current form as a positive development for the program.

Elizabeth Henderson of Rich’s Car Wash presented the award to Roberts during a segment on FOX10 Sports. Henderson highlighted the depth of talent emerging from local high school programs. She cited Saraland as a prime example of a school that has consistently produced high-level athletes over the years.

FOX10 Sports invites fans to submit statistics for other players they believe deserve weekly recognition. Interested parties can send their nominations to Emily.Cochran@FOX10tv.com for consideration in future Big Friday Kickoff Player of the Week selections.
