The Georgia National Fair in Perry has opened an exhibit on the pecan crop. Visitors can crack pecans at the exhibit and learn how the trees are grown. The display also invites visitors to weigh in on how to pronounce the word "pecan."
The Georgia Pecan Growers Association built the exhibit with the Rural Center, which is part of the Georgia Department of Agriculture. The two groups worked together on the project. Farm Monitor's John Holcomb visited the exhibit while the fair was running. The exhibit covers the history of pecans in Georgia and their place in the state's agriculture.
The fair's schedule runs through mid-October at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry. The pecan exhibit is part of that run. Fairgoers have been able to visit the display during the fair's operating dates. The exhibit remains open for the duration of the fair's scheduled dates.
No further dates for the exhibit have been announced. The fairgrounds in Perry host the event each year. The Georgia Pecan Growers Association and the Rural Center did not announce any plans beyond the fair's current run.
