More than 40 farm groups are speaking out about immigration enforcement hitting agricultural operations, saying they could disrupt work in meatpacking plants, livestock shipments and harvest across several states. The organizations, representing dairy, livestock and produce farmers, also warn that food prices could climb as a result. Their concerns were reported by The Washington Post.

The groups say removing experienced workers from the field puts crops at risk of going unharvested and pushes production costs higher for the farmers who remain. They are asking lawmakers to pass legislation that would allow established agricultural workers to keep their jobs legally. That request is aimed at the people already working in fields, dairies and processing plants.

The enforcement actions have reached meatpacking facilities and affected the movement of livestock, according to the organizations. The groups did not identify specific states or operations in their public statements. The Washington Post reported the concerns on behalf of the coalition.

Farm organizations have raised similar alarms in the past when labor shortages hit planting and harvest seasons. The current push centers on keeping current workers in place rather than replacing them with new hires.

No legislation addressing the farm groups' request has been scheduled for a vote as of Oct. 27, 2026.

The American Cancer Society's Dr. Robin Yabroff has separately noted that affordable insurance and stronger rural healthcare remain priorities for rural communities.
