Ten people were hospitalized after an SUV struck a pedal tavern in downtown Nashville on Thursday evening. The crash left several riders with serious injuries, including one woman who suffered fractures to her spine and face.

Joanna Reileah was riding on the vehicle when it was hit. She told WSMV-TV that she broke her back and her nose. Reileah said she is still recovering from multiple other injuries and faces a long road ahead.

In a statement, Reileah noted that several strangers helped her before emergency crews arrived. She described the experience as a reminder of the goodness in people. Other witnesses also called 911 immediately after the impact.

One caller described the scene as chaotic. "There are about 10 people on the ground. It is not good. Lots injured. Please come fast," the caller said.

The driver, who also called 911, said he accidentally hit the pedal tavern. When asked if anyone needed medical attention, he replied, "Um, I don't know, I think so." Metro Police reported that the driver told investigators he was distracted by his radio at the time of the crash.

As of Friday, six of the ten victims remained in the hospital. Metro Police stated that all six patients were in stable condition. The department has reached out to Vanderbilt Medical Center for further updates on their status.

The district attorney’s office is currently reviewing the case. The driver has only received a citation so far. Prosecutors are determining whether to file formal charges against him.
