Mexican authorities reported on Oct. 23 that Shayna Feinman, 35, was located in Tijuana, but local law enforcement in Arizona has not verified the identity.
Feinman was reported missing in Yavapai County, Arizona, after walking to a friend's house on March 9, 2024. She disappeared without a trace. Two men were arrested in connection with her disappearance later that year.
A Tijuana security force stated that residents in the Encino neighborhood reported seeing a woman who matched Feinman's description. Officials said the woman was confirmed to be Feinman and moved to a safe location.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said it has not been able to independently confirm the identity due to insufficient evidence. Deputies are continuing to investigate the new developments.
Feinman's sister, Kara, told reporters she did not recognize the person in Mexico. Kara said there was no hard evidence that the woman was her sister. She noted that this is not the first time Feinman has been reported spotted.
Kara described the reports from law enforcement as disheartening to the family because they often lack substantial evidence. Tijuana officials said the woman is awaiting contact with the Feinman family and U.S. authorities.
